One for the books...

This Easter is surely one whose memories won't soon fade from others preceding it.
First stop: The Dining Room. Here's the "YAY it's Spring/Easter" version of the table. It screams Spring, yes?
The term "a splash of color" seems something of an inadequate descriptor.
Kyle enjoys climbing up, removing the chargers and plates, and throwing the placemats to the floor forming a line, afterwhich he proceeds to jump from one to the other like a frog to it's lily pads.
Question: How many Primary kids and their parents can YOU fit in your Primary Room on the Saturday before Easter when you've promised them an Easter Egg Hunt, Crafts and Lunch?
The term "Do we have a Code Adam available in the church?"
comes to mind.

We did tally a record turnout though, and my presidency and I figure we have a whole three months before we have to start planning the Summer Version of this kind of insanity.

The term "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
found it's way into my thinking a time or two that morning.
But alas, the kids were thrilled to be able to throw (oh, I mean "toss" ) eggs at each other
and drink Root Beer from the can. If I can be a part of instilling that kind of joy for so many from something so simple, you better believe, I'll never stop volunteering to do it.

The crafts Bobbi orchestrated were a special tribute to our new prophet, and they turned out really great.
The term "I can't pick up raw egg remains and take pictures of the finished frames at the same time" DID escape my lips reluctantly.
Thankfully, Tina got some good pictures of them.

Later that night with our honored guests, Grandma Lehnhof and Hannah
and thanks to Lisa for the vinegar, our (boiled to perfection by Bret) eggs were dyed and scribbled, and tattooed, and stickered, and dropped, and crushed, and (fill-in-the-blank) because we probably did it to them...
and then, of course, we morphed them into cute lil' devils later.

The term "Do you think we could add hard-boiled eggs to that?"
has been uttered more than once in the past 24 hours.

You'll notice now, that after this, there will be no pictures.

Being that our church begins at the crack of the daydawn and the five children and their hyperactivity need to be at the church with their choir accompaning mother by 7:15 AM, I neglected to pose them adorably for a leisurely "on our way to church" picture.

The dresses were darling, their new ties were dashing, you get the drift. The remaining pictures that would have been taken of the leisure-time on the deck with Grandma, and the ensuing Mancala tournament are missing; due to the Easter Sunday trip to the ER with the febrile-Kyle and his double ear infections.

The term, "Sign here so we can treat him, and bill your insurance"
has a very "and Happy Easter to you, too" sort of ring to it.

So there you have it.
The Burch Easter Throwdown of 2008.
For next year, we thought we might go to Cancun.
Thank you Spring Break, for the extra-special family bonding. We enjoyed your sleepy mornings and repeated late-night movies.
But, thanks for sending the bus this morning at 7:05 like you promised.

Two Eyes, Two Ears, Two YEARS

It's fitting that my youngest child receives his birthday post a week late. He's used to it though...and thankfully will go with the flow on this too, becuase...well, he doesn't know the difference. Which begs the question - why do I care?

Thanks to MeKell for bailing me out camera-wise, when I realized I had no battery in mine.
Two words come to mind: Uh. Duh.

Kyle enjoyed celebrating with his cousins. He thought the cake was all his (which it wasn't) but we let him think so. You know, because he's two now - he gets whatever he wants, right?

He wasn't really interested in opening presents, but did enjoy the train ride, and feeding the ducks.

We pulled out all our shorts and sandals for the trip south, and came home to freezing cold again. It's great we only have to drive an hour to escape our seemingly endless winter.

Soon enough, Kyle will learn from his older brothers, that trying to start a fire with a magnifying glass and dried grass is way better than eating cake.

Happy Birthday Dude.
Your reign over the house thus far has been nothing short of stellar.
Viva Senor Kyle.

MARCHing in...late.

I should have posted my glorious "Welcome to March" post sooner, but have been 'engaged elsewhere' with a vast majority of other things. None of which I'll bore you with, but as you may have guessed, I have been watching "Sense and Sensibility" repeatedly whilst folding laundry and re-organizing downstairs.

K. so, I'll post pictures of Kyle's triumphant entrance into his 3rd year (2nd birthday) yesterday when I get the pictures uploaded, but for now these that I just found on a different camera from about 6 months ago will have to suffice.

Horseback riding up Mingus Mountain: Smores, campfire, me being thrown from my stubborn horse...the works.
Same as last year, except for the latter, and that we rode back in the dark this time.
THAT was a new and interesting twist.

Until next Fall Mingus...yours truly,
Burches, Drapers, and assorted equine...
